Happy World Mindfulness Day!

An invitation to take a conscious pause

On this World Mindfulness Day, I invite you to take a short break and consciously pay attention to your breathing.

Our breathing: a vital process

Although vital, we often breathe unconsciously.

And yet, when we pay attention to it, our breathing can sometimes provide us with useful information about our current state.

Your breathing: its current state

So I invite you to take a few deep breaths and observe how your breath feels today.

How many seconds do you inhale and exhale?

If you follow its path, how far down does it go (lungs, abdomen, diaphragm)?

An exercise to be repeated, for a better comparison!

I also invite you to repeat this exercise over the next few days and compare the state of your breath each time... perhaps you'll be able to make some interesting observations!

Mindfulness and breathing: what's the link?

Mindfulness: a moment of full attention

In fact, mindfulness is a state in which we are fully present and attentive to what is happening in the present moment, without overreaction or judgment.

Meditation: a form of mindfulness

Meditation is often cited as a form of mindfulness, but it's not the only one.

Other mindfulness practices

You can practice mindfulness while eating, walking, washing dishes... or simply breathing!

The idea is simply to focus your attention intentionally on what you're doing!

Increasing your mindfulness, one minute at a time!

At first, you may find it difficult to maintain your attention on one action, but start with one minute and see if you're able to increase that time, one minute at a time!
